Finance, Legal and Audit Perspectives

Have you ever spent each quarter end in a crunch trying to help your sales team close contracts? Has an important licensing deal you were working on been held up due to revenue recognition issues? If you've had that experience (or even if you haven't) – avoid next quarter's revenue recognition pitfalls by attending this May 15 lunch-time seminar presented by a panel of subject matter experts consisting of an in-house accounting manager, an in-house attorney, and two external auditors.

SPEAKERS

Nicole Phillips
Senior Manager, Assurance, PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP (PwC)

Nicole serves full-time in the Software/Internet practice group. She joined PwC in 1997. Nicole left PwC in 2002 to pursue employment, primarily in the capacity of Revenue Manager, for public software companies in the Silicon Valley. She returned to PwC in late 2004 and specializes in Software Revenue Recognition. Nicole has over 10 years of experience in serving SEC reporting clients and emerging businesses in the software and internet industries. She has extensive experience with initial public offerings, acquisitions and other business alliances. Some of Nicole's major clients include VMware, Zappos.com, Wind River Technologies and Redback Networks. Some of Nicole's prior engagementSenior Manager in the Assurance practice in San Jose. Nicole serves full-time in the Software/Internet practice group. She joined s included such companies as Mercury Interactive, Embarcadero Technologies, Agile, Fogdog Sports, Replay TV, and Tier Technologies.

Kim Wiatrak
Director of IP Compliance, PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP

Kim specializes in international and domestic licensing management/contract compliance and royalty recovery work. Kim has over 14 years experience in various aspects of audit, accounting and financial analysis. She is based out of San Francisco, California and has worked with PwC for over nine years. She is a California certified public accountant. Kim focuses on the technology sector and has assisted clients in the semiconductor, software, info-communication and bio-technology industries with identifying revenue leakage due to misreporting by licensees, as well as, in addressing issues that arise from accounting misfeasance.

Virginia Fournier Waite
Associate General Counsel and Legal Director, Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Virginia has been at Sun for 8 years, and is currently in the Products & Technology Law group where she is the legal business partner for the Services organization. Virginia has also had legal roles in the Marketing & Brands and Global Sales legal groups at Sun. Prior to Sun, Virginia worked in-house at Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. and Oracle Corporation doing technology licensing work. Before going in-house, Virginia was an associate at both Fenwick & West, and Heller Ehrman. Virginia received her JD from Santa Clara University, and her BA in French and Education from the University of Northern Colorado.

Gina Yao
Accounting Policy Manager, Intel Corporation

Gina has been with the Accounting Policy Group at Intel since 2001. She specializes in revenue recognition, investment accounting, and compensation accounting. Gina's primary responsibilities include advising the Intel businesses on the accounting, reporting and finance consequences of their various transactions, monitoring the activities of the accounting standard setting bodies and regulators, developing and maintaining Intel's accounting policies & training Intel personnel. Before joining Intel, Gina was with KPMG. She is a graduate of Beijing University and has master degrees from Stanford University and San Jose State University. Gina is a California certified public accountant.
